Flying over Kontrashibuna Lake in Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. We landed at the east end of the lake for photography and fishing. The lake is known for its brilliant turquoise color.

The official trail ends at the lake, but a brushed, unmaintained social trail continues along the lake’s north shore. The lodge is just a short walk from the Lake Clark National Park visitor center.

Begin this hike on the Tanalian Falls trail; continue past the falls to the shore of Kontrashibuna Lake. This long, narrow lake is nestled between steep mountains on either shore. The official trail ends at the lake, but a brushed, unmaintained social trail continues along the lake’s north shore.

View from the shore of Lake Kontrashibuna, which is a short hike from the "town" of Port Alsworth. The trail from Port Alsworth is one of the very few maintained trails in Lake Clark National Park. In order to travel up Lake Kontrashibuna, a kayak or canoe is an absolute neccesity.
